Project Summary

Pancreatic tumours are not just made up of cancer cells, but also include supportive cells that help the cancer grow and create barriers that prevent current drugs from working effectively. Our project aims to develop new treatments that use special peptides and antibodies to deliver powerful cell-killing substances, called radioisotopes, directly to these supportive cells. This targeted approach aims to eliminate the supportive cells without harming normal, healthy tissues. We expect our new treatments to significantly slow down or stop tumour growth. Additionally, these new drugs are anticipated to work even better when used with existing treatments, potentially creating a combined effect that is greater than the sum of its parts. This could make cancer treatments more effective overall, offering new hope to patients.

This grant was made possible by Woolworths Limited through the Woolies Wheels and Walks and Tour de Cure collaboration which generously contributes a large portion of funds to PanKind to be channelled into ground-breaking medical research.
