Every week matters for pancreatic cancer

Help us push for faster access to new treatments

When someone has pancreatic cancer, time matters.

New treatments are being developed that could offer important options for people with pancreatic cancer. But getting a new medicine approved for use in Australia is only part of the journey. There can be further steps before a treatment is assessed and made available through the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS).

Australia's Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Review identified an opportunity to improve this process for therapies that could provide significant benefits in areas where there is a high unmet clinical need.

Recommendation 8 proposes a more flexible pathway for these therapies, helping to support faster progress through the assessment process.

For people living with pancreatic cancer, where treatment options can be limited and time can be critical, improving access to new treatments matters.

In 2024, a national review of how Australia assesses new medicines made 50 recommendations to government. One of them offers a clear way forward. It's already on the table. Now it needs action.

Recommendation 8

Improve the pathways and processes for listing therapies with high added therapeutic value in areas of unmet clinical need on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme

Our ask of MPs

Raise Recommendation 8 with the Minister for Health and support its implementation as a priority.

Your voice counts

MPs listen to the people they represent. A personal email from someone in their electorate, explaining why this matters to them, carries real weight. It takes about five minutes.

How it works

  1. Find your MP. Enter your postcode and we'll find your local representative.
  2. Start with your story. Replace the text in [square brackets] with a few sentences about why this matters to you. Share only what you're comfortable with.

We have included the recommended ask to support Recommendation 8
  3. Check and send. Short, polite and personal works best.

There's no right or wrong way to share your experience. One honest sentence means more than a perfect paragraph.
