Our approach
We are the largest private funder of pancreatic cancer in Australia. We are consistently an early funder of promising research because we understand the importance of investing early in good ideas and dedicated researchers.
Many funding bodies understandably require proof-of-concept data before committing to a project. Pankind plays a critical role in bridging that gap—providing early funding that enables researchers to generate the initial data needed to kick-start their ideas. By supporting these foundational studies, we help make pancreatic cancer research projects more competitive and attractive to larger funders, including government agencies
Our investment over the years
Since our inception in 2008, we have invested over $17 million across 76 high-calibre research projects. These span across 21 different universities and institutions, funding some of Australia’s top research talent.

Our funding has grown steadily over the years, strengthening our commitment to pancreatic cancer research and helping build a sustainable foundation for long-term progress.

Pankind - Total grant funding committed 2011-2024
In line with our research strategy we focus our funding on key areas of pancreatic cancer research, including the development of new treatments, early detection, and research infrastructure.

Areas of Focus
We support research across the full lifecycle spanning a broad range of scientific focus areas. Our funding categories include early detection and diagnosis, surveillance and risk factors, development of new treatment tools, understanding the tumour microenvironment, and advancing clinical management strategies.
Knock-on impact
Our research investment has been leveraged by grant recipients to secure multiple of millions in pancreatic cancer funding. Leveraging funding means our investments go further—helping researchers secure additional support from other funders. This boosts the scale and impact of their work, accelerates progress, and ensures every dollar has maximum value in the fight against pancreatic cancer.
Insights gained from Pankind-funded research grants have also been shared with the scientific community at over 100 conferences, seminars and symposiums globally.
